I have a background in health and wellness, including a Bachelor’s degree in Holistic Nutrition. One of the required courses I took to complete my degree was a course specifically in cancer and holistic nutrition. The course covered everything from nutrition to prevent cancer, what to eat to beat a cancer diagnosis and a really large book about Harry Hoxey and how the American Medical Association and Big Pharma discredited his natural cure for cancer.
So when I received a personal cancer diagnosis I didn’t know what to think. I ate well, why did I get cancer? Should I go to a place like the Hoxey Clinic in Mexico to treat my cancer naturally? Is conventional medicine really that bad?
So while I chomped over my choices, having consults both with alternative and conventional doctors, I read up on alternative therapies like Gerson therapy which includes juicing and coffee enemas, Vitamin C infusions, Essiac tea, and more. I decided to incorporate some of the alternative therapies I learned about, including the juicing, so I bought a masticating juicer.
Right after my cancer diagnosis and during treatment I drank copious amounts of juice with my newly purchased juicer. I spent weeks picking the perfect juicer, learning all about the different types and how they extract the nutrients differently. I eventually opted for a masticating juicer, more specifically the Omega Juicer as it fit the criteria for needs, but still also fit my budget.
One of the great things about masticating juicers is that not only have you extracted all of the nutrients, but these nutrients are also easily absorbed by your body. This was great for me since I didn’t have much of an appetite during this time anyway.
During these days I would spend 20-30 minutes each morning juicing my vegetables and fruit, usually concocting one recipe that I would enjoy throughout the entire day, which was approximately 32 ounces. I can’t even imagine doing this on a daily basis now, it really was a lot of
Although it was a little bit of an investment, one of the pros is my Omega Juicer lasted. I still celebrate life with a glass of freshly made juice, just not to the degree I did when I was dealing with cancer as there are so many health benefits to juicing.
Here are 8 benefits to juicing:
- Increased nutrient absorption. I mentioned earlier in the post about how the nutrients are absorbed easily when juicing. Your body doesn’t have to digest the fiber when juicing and you are introducing nutrients directly to your bloodstream.
- Increased vegetable and fruit consumption. It is very easy to consume the equivalent of 10 pounds of fruits and veggies when juicing. Can you think of the last time you ate 10 pounds of produce?
- A Wider Variety of Produce consumption. I have a child that likes his green beans, broccoli, carrots, and apples and that is pretty much what I feed him on a daily base. When juicing, I can add spinach, kale, ginger, and more. This not only increases the variety of fruits and veggies my child is consuming but I am also adding a wider variety of nutrients as every fruit and veggie has their potent nutrient punch.
- It helps fight cancer. I am in no way saying that juicing cures cancer. I do not promote the Gerson therapy as a cure for cancer, however, I can attest to the miraculous power of juicing during cancer treatment. It helped keep my body nourished during chemotherapy as the nutrients are easily absorbed, and food can be hard to get down when you are in treatment. I also had quick recoveries from the numerous cancer surgeries.
- Detox. Our body is exposed to toxins regularly. It isn’t just our food but our environment, the products we use on our body, our drinking water, our furniture..the list goes on. All of these toxins put a huge strain on your liver. Studies have found that cruciferous vegetables like broccoli can improve detoxification in the liver. This means your liver will be more efficient at quickly getting toxins out of your body when consuming juice.
- Energy. I always feel like I have had a cup of coffee after having a nutrient dense juice. On top of that, when juicing I don’t have the afternoon crash that caffeine brings.
- Delay in Aging. I like to consider juicing “The Fountain of Youth”. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants. Antioxidants protect our bodies from oxidative damage, which contributes to physical aging. Studies have linked oxidative damage to the development of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more.
- Weight Loss. Juice Fasting is a great way to lose weight. Your body has an opportunity to detox, receive all of the nutrients your body needs, benefit your gut health and still provide you energy. So with the weight loss, you are receiving a plethora of other benefits.
