I Run 13.1 for Fun, but a Marathon?

I just registered for a full marathon! I am sitting here as I share this, with sweaty palms and a racing heart, some of it due to nerves and some from excitement.

When I wrote my 100 List this year I added running a marathon at 40. I turn 40 in July. This marathon isn’t until January 12th of 2020 so technically I guess it will have to be checked off next year, but, it is so exciting to have such a monumental list item ready to check off.

Of course, my first marathon would have to be a Disney marathon, I would have it no other way. After all, my first half-marathon was at Disney a little less than a year after completing breast cancer treatment last year. I have since run 2 other half-marathons, a 10k, a 15k, several 5ks and I am getting ready to run another 15k this upcoming Sunday. Most of these races are at Disney. The Disney magic shines through even when you are running 13.1 miles or 26.2, as it will be for me January.

I love running, I mean I do run 13.1 miles for fun, but choosing to run a marathon scares me. I have never run 26.2 miles …EVER! Of course, I have easily run that in a week’s time, but in one race, never! Fortunately, I have plenty of time to train as it is only April and the race is not until January, but I know Olympic athletes who have received DNF’s (did not finish) medals. The other thing that scares me is the weather. Florida weather can be crazy. Last year during Marathon weekend, racers were dropping out due to dehydration and such from the humidity. The year before it was the opposite as Florida had freezing temperatures that weekend. All of this makes me very nervous but still excited!

For now, I will focus on my training and deciding what my costume should be and on January 13th I will plan to be celebrating with you all about how I conquered the marathon with a picture of me and my finisher’s medal.

I would love to hear what big goals or list items you plan to accomplish this year. Please share below.
